Monday I managed to get up and go for a swim.

30 lengths swim

Tuesday I worked late then was on the phone to a company longer than expected so arrived late for Run club.  When I joined everyone in the park I felt rushed but full of energy and had a great session running round in circles a bit like work really!  I managed to get a few fast intervals in and on the back of my 20 miler I was more than happy.   Liz said she had read my blog and that I sounded like I was back on track and felt it.

Club intervals – 50mins – forgot my Garmin so don’t have distance

Wednesday was down as a rest day.  I meet TSR after work for a quick drink then dashed off to the cinema to meet the girls from book club as we had arranged to go see One Day, the first book we had read.

Thursday evening was home for a quick tidy up and to see the kids before going to Hyde Park for Rick’s boot camp session which he had warned us would be hill interval sessions.  We warmed up then Rick informed us we would be doing 5 minutes repeats of running up and down the hill as many times as we could with a 2 min rest in between, probably my least  favourite of all interval sessions! I like 2 mins on 2 mins off and FLAT of course! So knowing I’d need to pace myself I set of at the back of the group nice and steady up the hill as the faster boys and girls flew past us!  But then I had a shock as I spotted TSR, or as Liz calls him, the sex god!  He was stood at the top of the hill and had come to say hello and give me a kiss before he went off on his two weeks holiday.

I probably did my all time fastest sprint up a hill (not that that would take a lot of doing as hills and sprinting should, in my book, never be said in the same sentence)

And so with an added spring in my step and to some light hearted teasing from my club mates I had my 2nd great interval session of the week.

Hill Intervals – no Garmin

Friday I considered running Friday night as I really wanted to have at least one lie and thought I might give parkrun a miss.  But with a close race between Tess HS and Ken Fox and myself to 100 parkruns I couldn’t really afford to miss one, especially as they had both sneaked an extra one in through the week!  However I felt really drained Friday evening and I found it near on impossible to do anything except sit on the sofa and read never mind go out for a run.  So I decided to stay put and stick with my plan of rest Friday, parkrun Saturday, early night Saturday and 20 miles Sunday but then my friend text me and offered me a ticket for the Khyser Chiefs on Saturday night.

Saturday was parkrun day and I struggled.  I wasn’t looking forward to doing 20 miles on Sunday, I felt a little unwell, my throat was sore and my glands felt swollen, I thought about turning down the ticket for the Khyser Chiefs but decided to go.  I really enjoyed the concert and after a lot of singing I couldn’t really feel my sore throat, I didn’t feel like eating when I got in and there was no chance of an early night! Not the best preparation for a 20 mile run

Sunday I got up and had my porridge and then set off about 7.50  the plan was to meet with Sue, Diane and Claire who were going to run about the first 5 miles along the canal with me,  I would then run another 8ish and meet Liz  and Linda at golden acre and do another 8ish.

But as I ran along Meanwood Road I began to struggle and I wanted to walk more than I wanted to run, as I was only at mile 9.5 I just felt if I continued I would have had 10 miles of misery, it would have taken forever and I would have felt  very de motivated.  So I took the decision to call Liz and call it an end for the day. Liz kindly volunteered to come pick me so the OCD side of me made me run round Waitrose car park until the Garmin reached 10miles while I waited for Liz to arrive.  I left a message for Linda saying I was not going to make it to Golden Acre and was only when Linda returned my call I found out that she had actually planned to meet us at 8 and that we had set off without her. Sorry Linda!

I was disappointed not to have done the 20 miles and part of me wondered if I was just being lazy.  But it is now Wednesday and I have had a sore throat on and off since Saturday  and a really bad headache since Monday, nothing seems to take it off and today I had to apologise to a few people as I found myself snapping at them.

I decided not to run last night and so joined the HPH coffee club, and my head was so bad tonight I don’t think I could have run without being sick.

I’m guessing I have some kind of virus thing at the moment, it’s not bad and if I wasn’t training it would be more of a nuisance than anything, but it is getting me down and I am worried that I didn’t manage my 20 miles.

Hopefully I will feel able to run in the next couple of days.
